Mission Statement: (See Web Site For Updated Information)
MySmallHelp Peru is a small non-profit organization based in the Sacred Valley of the Incas in Peru. We work with children with a disability, following the principle that each human being should be treated equally and has the right to be loved and cared for. Our vision is to empower those living in extreme poverty and difficult situations to find a better way of life through education and skills training. MySmallHelp aims to get to know the persons we work with, establishing not a culture of dependency, but a trustful atmosphere and self-sustainability for our beneficiaries.

Children with a disability are often neglected in this area for many reasons, starting with a lack of knowledge on the side of the parents of how to manage with a disabled child. Most parents live in very poor conditions and have many children to care for, so if there is a child with a disability in the family, it is usually the last to be taken care of. Working together with these families, we try to establish a new environment in which all family members feel comfortable and learn to appreciate their special situation.

Our main project is a bus service that we offer for children with a disability who live in the area of Ollantaytambo, Cusco. We pick these children up from their homes in the morning and bring them to a special school in Urubamba, the next town. In the afternoon, the children are dropped off at their houses after a day in the school in which they get the time to study and play and be in contact with other children.

We also visit the children in their homes, spending time with them and keeping company. This is when we establish a relationship with the parents as well, teaching them how to spend time with their child and include it in family life. This is a process that we can only take limited influence upon, but every small step in the right direction is a big step for our children.

There are other projects MySmallHelp runs in the area of Ollantaytambo, such as teaching in a primary school in a nearby community, building a dining room for children living far away in another community and selling jam made by mothers we work with for them to earn some money for themselves.

MySmallHelp is a small and still developing organization that asks volunteers to take part in every area of work, from visiting the children to marketing and fundraising. Putting in your small help to make a big difference, there are no limits to your ideas and if you are enthusiastic about working with children and being in a new and exciting environment, do not hesitate to contact us to find out more about our projects and volunteer opportunities
